God’s Unfailing Love

By: Pastor Joel Murr

Praise the Lord, all you nations.
Praise him, all you people of the earth.

For his unfailing love for us is powerful;
the Lord’s faithfulness endures forever.

Praise the Lord

(Psalm 117:1-2 NLT)

When was the last time you took a minute and thought about God’s “unfailing love?” I know, it’s human nature to doubt God could truly love us. After all, we are sinners. We have disappointed Him time and time again. I know. I’m one of those sinners.  And Satan loves to remind us, doesn’t he? It’s almost as if he sits on our shoulder and says, “You blew it again. You mistreated that person. You looked at those images. You took another pill, another drink. You don’t pray like you should. You hardly ever read your Bible. You can’t live the Christian life.  Just give up. You’re not good enough for God. He doesn’t love you. You’re a fake. You’re a failure. You’re a hypocrite.”

But that’s not how God sees His family.  Over and over again in Scripture, we are reminded of not only that He loves us, but that He NEVER FAILS in His love for us. It never ends. No matter what we do, He is always there for us. It’s hard for us to understand because we would never do that. We would say, “Enough is enough.” We would condemn that person who treated our relationship that way. But with God, there is no condemnation. He loves us in spite of our sin. In spite of how we treat Him. And when we think of that kind of love, well, it should spur us to love Him and want to live for Him.

Dr. Charles Stanley says, “We begin to understand the lavishness of God’s love when we make it our central focus.” Perhaps these words from one of the worship songs we sing at church will help you to meditate on His unfailing love for you.

Higher than the mountains that I face
Stronger than the power of the grave
Constant through the trial and the change
One thing remains,
Yes, one thing remains.
Your love never fails,
It never gives up
It never runs out on me

Because on and on, and on, and on it goes
Before it overwhelms and satisfies my soul
And I never ever have to be afraid
One thing remains
So, this one thing remains.

In death, in life I’m confident and covered by the power of Your great love
My debt is paid.
There’s nothing that can separate my heart from Your great love…
